Pure Passion at Schantz Galleries
Over 20 years has passed since Tagliapietra first fused filigrana, cane, and murrine into a two-dimensional panel form with his 1999 landmark work entitled George, now in the collection of the Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. In the ensuing years, he has translated many of his three-dimensional series into panel form, creating bold and vibrant pieces that are part Abstract Expressionist painting, part virtuosity in glass. He culminated this exploration in 2021 with the dramatic and varied panel series Dream of a Long Winter, inspired by and executed during what has been a time of emotional and physical suffering for many. The pandemic compelled him to hone a new and challenging panel technique which saw him creating, transforming, and recomposing the glass.
